NDARE Sectors

To help facilitate clean, sustainable development of more of North Dakota’s renewable resources, NDARE has designated six sectors: Wind, Biodiesel, Ethanol, Biomass, Carbon, Energy Efficiency.

Biomass:  NDARE recognizes the vast potential for increasing development of North Dakota’s top rated biomass resources. To increase productivity, and add value to available resources, NDARE works to create awareness and help promote more development and use of biomass in production of biofuels and bioproducts, building on the legislation passed at the 2007 legislative session that NDARE supported, particularly SB 2288 and HB 1515.  To help identify opportunities and develop these goals, NDARE works with the ND Biomass Energy Task Force with many shared members.

Ethanol:  NDARE promotes development and use of home grown ethanol as it helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil and adds value to North Dakota resources.  We work to improve public awareness and help provide verifiable information to help increase public acceptance and demand for advancing development of new technologies that adds to the diversity of feedstocks and processes for ethanol and biofuel production.

Biodiesel: NDARE promotes development and use of home grown biodiesel as it also helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil and adds value to North Dakota resources.  As with ethanol, NDARE works to improve public awareness and help provide verifiable information to help increase public acceptance and demand for advancing development of new technologies that adds to the diversity of feedstocks and processes for biodiesel and biofuel production.

Energy Efficiency: This sector is newly established.  NDARE board members and sector leaders are meeting with home builders associations, chambers of commerce, banks, churches, cities and others to identify current status, challenges, deficiencies, and opportunities for improvements in energy efficiency and conservation.  Some identified areas of interest by the Energy Efficiency Committee are development of an informational website with links to energy efficiency information.  Also to develop education programs for students, professionals and lenders that have increasing energy efficiency as their main goal.

Carbon:  This sector is also newly established.  NDARE is gathering information from current carbon exchanges and entities that have some experience in the current carbon markets like the Chicago Carbon Exchange.  Some current North Dakota entities that have already marketed carbon credits that have shared information, are the Farmers Union and the city of Fargo that is one of six US cities registered as certified trading members of the CCX.

Wind: This sector works to identify methods to reach North Dakotas vast potential for wind generation.  North Dakota ranks #1 state for measured wind resources.  NDARE promotes more use development and use of wind power to add diversity and value to our energy production mix to help make North Dakotas energy exports more marketable while extending our nonrenewable resources.  This sector has representatives from utilities, RECs, developers, advocates, economic development.
